The loss of a loved one leaves an indelible mark on the heart, especially when that loved one is a parent. For Emily and Sarah Rosenberg, the passing of their father, Michael, left a void that no extracurricular activity or family gathering could fill. However, thanks to The Joy Mission and the generous support of our community, the Rosenberg family was able to create new, joyful memories that will last a lifetime.
Michael’s Battle and Last Wish
In May 2021, Michael Rosenberg was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite his illness, he was determined to make lasting memories with his family, particularly by fulfilling a dream of taking them on a Disney Cruise. Unfortunately, Michael passed away in October 2023 at the age of 34, before he could realize this dream. However, his love and planning did not go unnoticed.
A Bittersweet Memory
Before his passing, Michael managed to take his family on a weekend trip to a donated cottage in August 2023. Though he was too sick to fully enjoy the experience, the trip left behind beautiful memories, including a touching video of Michael dancing with his daughters to live music, wearing his home oxygen.
The Joy Mission’s Impact
With the help of our donors, The Joy Mission was able to send the Rosenberg family on the Disney Cruise Michael had dreamed of. Emily, Sarah, and their mother dressed up as their favorite princesses, met beloved Disney characters, and felt Michael’s presence in every joyful moment. This trip was more than just a vacation; it was the fulfillment of Michael’s last wish and a step towards healing for the Rosenberg family.
The Rosenberg family’s story is a testament to the power of love, planning, and community support in creating moments of joy amidst grief. We are honored to have played a part in their healing journey and look forward to helping more families find joy after the storm.
